What is Fire?
Fire is a chemical reaction in which oxygen is combined with a gaseous of vaporous fuel. Combustion or fire, is defined as rapid oxidation producing light and heat flames. Combustion can take place when 3 factors or elements are present: Fuel, Heat and Oxygen.
What Fire Wardens Need to Know
Wardens must:
- Know how to contact emergency response personnel
- Give correct information about the site, the casualties and the general situation
- Have effective communication with other staff, the public and to the Emergency Services
Warden Duties and Responsibilities
It is important to know what your duties and responsibilities are:
- At a trial or real evacuation you represent the Emergency Services
- People need to listen to you
- Staff or members of the public that refuse to cooperate; can be dealt with by either the Emergency Services or your employers
- Employers have an obligation to support you as a Warden
- Have regular drills, report to staff and management, meetings and feedback will help to build trust and respect for you in your job as a warden. It will also help you get co-operation in the event of an emergency.
Our Training

We offer training Face-to-Face as a half-day Competency-Based training for both first time trainees and for those just needing refreshers. For those who are experienced and just need a quick refresher however, we can also offer this training Online.
Face-to-Face Training
We run this course as a Private, Company-Specific Training or as a Public Course every other month.
Private, Company-Specific Training
Our Private, Company-Specific course is perfect if you have a group of up to 15 people. We can tailor-make this course to suit your industry, and we can incorporate any of your own procedures. Prices for Fire Safety (Warden & Extinguisher) combined start at $1,850.00 + GST depending on your location, for up to 15 people. This training can be held at our site in Whangarei, Northland, or yours. If training at your site, an outdoor area that can be sectioned off is required. If you would like to book just Fire Warden or Fire Extinguisher Training rather than the combined course, please get in touch.
Public Courses
You can check to see if we have any upcoming Public Courses here. This is great if you have just one or a few people needing this training. This is a half-day course and runs at a set date and time at our training centre on Kioreroa Road in Whangarei, Northland. The price for our Public Fire Safety Training is $185.00 + GST per person.
Online Training
We also have Fire Warden or Fire Suppression/Extinguisher Training online as separate courses. Online training is a good supplement to practical experience and competency, and can be a way to gain knowledge and understanding before or after practical training. It is a great way to learn about the training and all the course content before or after discussions with our trainer(s). It can also be used as an effective safety and awareness training refresher and in large scale or rapid roll-out training situations. Online Training in some cases may not be suitable and it is up to the individual or management to decide when and where it is appropriate.
The cost for these courses are $69.00 + GST per course, per person and it takes approximately 30-60 minutes to complete. Trainees can access the training on their own time whenever suits them. They will receive login details and instructions on how to access the course. It contains a mix of visual and written information in an interactive format, and there is a quiz to complete. Trainees must receive a 90% pass-rate to be able to download their certificate.

Course Description
Our Fire Safety Training course covers crucial Fire Safety and Suppression techniques for when a fire occurs and the different fire extinguishers and what types of fire they are used for; along with Fire Warden & Emergency Procedures for when a fire or emergency occurs.
